Oil Seeds, Oils & Fats Analysis

Salamon & Seaber offers a full analytical service for oils of animal & vegetable origin, oil seeds, and fats (including tallows). As full member analysts of the Federation of Oils, Seeds and Fats Association (FOSFA) we have experience and are able to carry out all mandatory and many optional contractual analyses.

Analyses may be carried out with respect to international standards such as FOSFA, ISO, Codex Alimentarius, British / European / Japanese / US Pharmacopoeia / NF, and others as requested.

Published methods used are those of FOSFA, AOAC, AOCS, BP, USP / NF, FCC, ISO and others as requested by the client.

Oil Seeds (e.g. Sunflower, Sesame, Rapeseed, Soya bean, Groundnut, Cottonseed)

Typical quality analysis required on FOSFA contracts include :

Moisture and volatile matter content
Impurities (Admixture, Foreign Matter)
Oil content
Free Fatty Acids (FFA)

Other tests include

Physical analysis according to USDA and ANEC specifications
Physical analysis of Cotton-seeds, including damaged seeds
Detection of Lumps, foreign matter, admixture
Detection of poisonous and other undesirable seeds
Detection of damaged beans
Cocoa Beans: grading, inspection & determination of damage (Cut Test)
Cashew nuts: grading

Oils and Fats (Edible oils, Refined and Crude Oils and Fats, and Lubricants)

Including Corn oil, Sunflower oil, Ground-nut oil, Castor Oil, Palm oil, Palm Olein etc.

Fatty acid profile (to determine identity)
Moisture and volatile matter content
Insoluble impurities

Peroxide value (PV)
