Cereals, Grains & Pulses Analysis
We carry out physical and chemical examinations on cereals and grains according to EC Regulations, USDA specifications, ISO and Codex Alimentarius Standards and use the methodology of the European Brewing Convention (EBC Analytica) for malting barley.
We are official analysts to the Grain and Feed Trade Association (GAFTA), and many tests are in our existing UKAS schedule of Accreditation .
Rice Analysis
We are capable of analysing rice according to ISO 7301: "Specification for Rice", USDA specifications, and Codex Alimentarius standards.
Malting Barley Analysis
Malting Barley is analysed according to the methods of the European Brewing Convention (EBC) for parameters such as the following:
- Moisture
- Nitrogen
- Thousand Corn Weight
- Germinative Capacity (Tetrazolium Rapid Staining Method)
- Germinative Capacity (Hydrogen Peroxide & Peeling Technique)
- Germinative Energy (Aubry Method)
- Germinative Energy (BRF Method)
- Sieving test (Determination of admixture, broken grains etc)
- Mycotoxins (Aflatoxin, Ochratoxin etc.)
Pulses Analysis
Pulses can be analysed to ISO specifications, Codex Alimentarius standards, to determine size, impurities, foreign odour, species or varieties.
Chemical Analysis of Cereals, Grains & Pulses
Chemical tests include the following:
- Moisture
- Ash
- Protein
- Wet Gluten
- Mycotoxins (Aflatoxin, Ochratoxin etc.)
- Hagberg Falling Number
- Zeleny index
Physical Analysis of Cereals, Grains & Pulses
Physical tests include the following:
- Test Weight
- Determination of Impurities / Foreign Matter / Admixture
- Detection and identification of poisonous weeds / seeds and other undesirable substances
- Detection and identification of common storage insects
- Detection and classification of damaged grains
- Determination of Germinative Energy and Germinative Capacity (Malting Barley)
- Sieving Test (Calibration) on Malting Barley
- Physical analysis of rice according to ISO or USDA specifications, including determination of broken and damaged grains.
