Methodology and Instrumentation
A wide range of instrumentation and apparatus is available in our comprehensively equipped laboratories.
Some of the techniques used are as follows:
- Gas liquid chromatography (GLC)
- High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
- Thin layer chromatography (TLC)
- Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS)
- Fluorimetry
- Polarimetry
- Ultraviolet and visible spectroscopy
- Water Activity
- Microscopy
- Rheology: Brookfield Viscometer, Flow Cup, Bostwick Consistometer
- Flash Point Apparatus
- pH
- Penetrometry
- Kahl Pellet Hardness testing
- Conductivity
- Saccharimeter
- Refractometer
- Colourimetry: Pfund Grader, Lovibond Comparator / Tintometer, Gardner Scale, Hazen, α-amylase, Disk Colourimetry, Munsell Colour, FAC Scale, ASTA Colour, ICUMSA Colour
- Ring and Ball Apparatus
- Hagberg Falling Number
- Differential Pressure Gauges (F.I.R.A. Gauge, Budenberg Gauge)
Our high capacity general chemical section allows us to complete large numbers of the following analytical methods quickly and efficiently:
- Kjeldahl protein determination
- Crude fibre
- Soxhlet oil extraction
- Sand and Silica, Sand only
Referee Analysis by Classical Techniques
Although modern instrumentation has many advantages, there are occasions when classical techniques have to be used for referee purposes. We have a worldwide reputation in this field, in particular with regard to protein determination by the Kjeldahl technique.
